It's dark o'clock

I do not know why every day this week I've gotten up really early.  Like today, what am I doing up at 5:30 a.m.?

Why do we use a contraction for o'clock?  It's easier to say it instead of:  "it's 5:30 of the clock" but it's still weird. I wonder why we don't say, "It's quarter past o'hour" for quarter past the hour of the clock?   One would never say "It's quarter past o'clock."

And a big questions is, why am I pondering this at 5:45 o'clock in the morning?

I have to agree with you. What are you doing pondering this question now? 5:30 only comes once a day in my world. And it isn't in the morning. But I wanted to tell you I thought your illustration of your dogs was delightful!

In my perfect world 5:30 only comes once a day and my imperfect world it comes twice! I don't like mornings, I'm not a morning person at all. Luckily I can (sort of) write but I cannot speak. I can grunt tho!

Thanks, for the compliment on the illustration. Love my dogs, love playing with graphics.
